2004 ANZ Championship

The 2004 ANZ Championship was staged at Horizons from February 12 through 15. 156 professionals from the European and Australasian PGA Tours competed for $1.75m in prize money in the richest golf tournament ever staged outside of a major Australian capital city.

The field comprised of 156 players: 73 from the PGA Tour of Australasia, 73 from the PGA European Tour and 10 invited players including English Professional Laura Davies who was the first female to play a men's tournament on either the Australasian or European circuit.

Just under 30,000 spectators witnessed exciting golf at it's very best.  England's Brian Davis finished with the cash when he birdied the last hole to finish with a 65 and move the 44 points in the modified stableford tournament.  Defending Champion, Paul Casey of England, finished second on 43 points.  Newcastle teenager Nick Flanagan shared third position alongside France's Thomas Levet and Australian Scott Gardiner.

The Seven Network broadcasted a minimum of 10 hours of national weekend coverage of the ANZ Championship.   Fox Sports also broadcasted a minimum of 5 hours national coverage on both the Thursday and Friday.

Internationally the event was broadcasted to more than 30 markets including the USA, Japan, France, Germany, Italy and many major Asian markets an estimated audience of 110 million viewers.
