Media releases ANZ Championship 2004 Wednesday, 16 July 2003 The Chairman of the Organising Committee for the ANZ Championship, Steve Frazer, announced today that the ANZ Championship 2004 will be played at the Horizons Golf Resort at Port Stephens from February 12 through 15, 2004. The ANZ Championship is a co-sanctioned event on the Australasian and European PGA Tours and 156 players will compete for $1.75m in prizemoney in the richest golf event ever staged outside an Australian metropolitan centre. “We are very pleased to be staging the ANZ Championship at the #1 resort course in NSW and one of the finest courses in the country” Steve Frazer said today “there is an enormous sense of excitement and enthusiasm from Newcastle and the local community to ensure the success of this project and we are very excited about this move”. The ANZ Championship will next year again enjoy the support and investment of the NSW Major Events Board who welcomed the move of the tournament to Port Stephens. Hon Michael Costa, Minister for Transport Services and the Hunter, said today “We are committed to assisting the securing of Major Events for NSW regional centres and certainly the move of the ANZ Championship to Port Stephens is a magnificent result for the local community and local business”. Horizons Golf Resort boasts a 6,187m championship course designed by Graham Marsh and has previously hosted the NSW Open and the ALPG Players’ Championship. Horizons CEO Antonio Gelonesi stated “The securing of the ANZ Championship is another step towards our commitment of delivering the very best to our members and residents and to continuing to support the business and tourism communities of Port Stephens and the Hunter Valley”. Head of Brand and Sponsorship at the ANZ, Amanda Dugan stated “Golf continues to deliver a very important platform to assist some of our core objectives in branding and client liaison.
