Media releases Horizons Awarded NSW Host Employer of the Year Monday, 21 July 2003 On Friday 18 July, Horizons Golf Resort was announced the winner of the coveted NSW Host Employer of the Year (20 employees plus) category and winner of the NSW Group Training – Training Excellence at the 2003 NSW Group Training Awards gala presentation dinner held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney honoring the achievements of individuals and organisations dedicated to advancing the standards and status of vocational job skills. Horizons’ trainee Adrian Hoffman, currently completing Certificate III in Hospitality/Tourism won Trainee of the Year in the Hospitality/Tourism Industry category from over 100 nominated trainees statewide. The evening was attended by 500 nominees, training industry representatives and dignitaries including guest speaker, the Hon Dr Brendan Nelson MP, Commonwealth Minister for Education, Science and Training, and Compere Steve Liebman of Channel Nine’s ‘Today’ program. Horizons was nominated by MEGT (Australia) Ltd and the Hospitality Training Network (HTN) and took out this award from finalists such as the NSW Department of Corrective Services (Sydney), Guyra Shire Council, Sutherland Shire Leisure Centre and Qenos (Matraville). John Purcell, NSW Regional Manager, MEGT said “We nominated Horizons for this award because of their high standards, dedication and ongoing commitment to the training of our apprentices and trainees who are integrated into all areas of Horizons operations. MEGT management and staff are thrilled that Horizons won this award and would like to congratulate all at Horizons”. Julie Woolnough, Regional Operations Manager, HTN said "We are proud to support Horizons and their apprentices and congratulate them on their achievement and ongoing commitment to training." General Manager, Simon Brown said “This award is in recognition of our strong commitment to training and our close relationship with our training partners such as MEGT and HTN. We are very proud of Adrian’s achievements and it is fitting to see him being recognised for his commendable qualities of dedication, commitment and the ability to work well within a team. Adrian is also a finalist as Trainee of the Year in the Hotel Motel Accommodation Association (HMAA) Industry Awards for Excellence to be announced this Saturday, 26 July in Coffs Harbour”. Brown added “This is the ninth award presented to Horizons in 2003 and comes after the major announcement of the ANZ Championship being held at Horizons from 12-15 February 2004. We have been recognised for a variety of industry awards and rankings, further credentialising Horizons’ position as a valuable flagship organisation to regional tourism and a worthy destination for international, domestic and corporate markets”.
