Media releases Byrnes Takes on the World's Best at Weetabix Women's British Open Wednesday, 30 July 2003 Horizons Golf Resort’s Touring Professional, Cherie Byrnes is currently in England preparing for the 1.05 million pound Weetabix Women’s British Open to be played at Royal Lytham and St Anne’s Golf Club, Lancashire from Thursday, 31 July – Sunday, 3 August 2003. Byrnes qualified for an exemption into this event as she is ranked within the top 35 players on the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit. Byrnes is among a strong Australasian contingent of 18 exempt into the field for the Women’s British Open, which includes Karrie Webb, Rachel Teske, Wendy Doolan, Alison Munt, Lynette Brooky, Corinne Dibnah and among others. Tamara Hyett, winner of the 2003 Contrabart ALPG Players’ Championship is placed as second reserve and keen to get a start. Byrnes has played in the past two Weetabix British Opens which were held at Sunningdale Golf Club in England and Turnberry Golf Club in Scotland. Byrnes said “I learnt a lot from both of these events and I am not overawed at all by meeting the world’s best on this new course. I am hitting the ball further than ever before and I think it’s due to a combination of my strength training some time ago and my recent technique coaching”.
