Media releases Horizons a Winner in 2003 Hunter Region Awards for Excellence in Tourism Friday, 15 August 2003 Horizons Golf Resort was announced as the winner of the Significant Festivals and Events category for the NSW Open Championship at last night’s gala 2003 Hunter Region Awards for Excellence in Tourism. The NSW Open was relaunched at Horizons on 7-10 November 2002 after a seven year hiatus and was a great success with over 15,000 golfing spectators witnessing some of Australia’s greatest professional golfers test themselves against Horizons championship course. During the Championship the region received extensive media coverage by Fox Sports highlights and national and local news reports. General Manager, Simon Brown said “It is a great honour for Horizons to be acknowledged at these prestigious tourism awards and reinforces we are a major player in holding significant professional golf events. The NSW Open certainly added weight to our vision of bringing a major golf tournament to the region and assisted in Horizons being announced as the host of the 2004 ANZ Championship which will be held from 12-15 February 2004. We are proud to be the host of the richest golf event ever to be staged outside an Australian metropolitan centre and will enjoy sharing this experience with the many regional golfing enthusiasts”. Brown added “I would also like to note this award is a team effort and also recognises the contribution of our members, staff and the hundreds of volunteers who gave their time to assist in the smooth running of this Championship”. |
