Media releases Port Stephens Cocktail & Cuisine Awards Relaunched at Horizons Wednesday, 27 August 2003 The Port Stephens Cocktail and Cuisine Awards will be relaunched at Horizons Golf Resort tomorrow and will be an opportunity for local chefs, restaurants, apprentices, high school students and staff to be recognised by the industry and suppliers for effort and excellence in various static and live competitions. There will be three sections covered during the 2003 Port Stephens Cocktail and Cuisine Awards including Restaurant of Port Stephens and Waitperson of the Year, a Static Section including categories in high school hospitality, apprentice (1st to 4th year) 4 desserts, savoury platter for 6 portions, best bread or pie product, best celebration/novelty cake, waitperson and table presentation. The third is the Live Section, which includes cream cocktail, sour cocktail, knife skills (1st to 4th year apprentice), knife skills for high school hospitality classes and barista. For the Restaurant of Port Stephens and Waitperson of the Year a team of independent judges visited each restaurant anonymously and sampled a three-course meal excluding beverages. The Waitperson of the Year will be judged on their service skills and abilities demonstrated throughout the judges’ meal. For your information, the schedule for the day includes: 11am Open to the public 11.30am Judging of the static displays 12.30pm Barista Competition 1.30pm Knife Skills (apprentice classes) 2.30pm High School Knife Skills 3.30pm Cocktail Competition 5pm Presentation of medals and cocktail function. Horizons General Manager Simon Brown said “Horizons is very proud to relaunch these prestigious Awards and to be the host for hospitality and training industry individuals to develop their creativity and maintain the high standard that the Port Stephens hospitality industry is renown for.
