Media releases Byrnes on Par for 2003 LPGA Qualifying School Wednesday, 27 August 2003 Horizons Golf Resort’s Touring Professional, Cherie Byrnes has had play abandoned for the first round of the 1st sectional for the 2004 LPGA Qualifying and is sitting at even par after 13 holes being played at The Plantation Golf and Country Club at Venice, Florida. Byrnes has had to contend with the weather including extremely hot conditions and electrical storms which are hitting Florida added with the course being extremely wet. Byrnes will continue play from the 14th hole tomorrow at 8am with Theresa McDermott (Ontario) and Soyoung Park (Korea). The top 30 players at each sectional qualifier advance to the final qualifying tournament to be held on 21-24 October at the LPGA International, Legends Course, Daytona Beach, Florida. Byrnes said “I have had practice rounds at both the Panther and Bobcat Courses. One of the things you have to be careful of is the alligators that occasionally wander around the Bobcat Course!” Byrnes added “Since leaving Ireland one week ago, I have spent the past week at the home of Ian and Jennie Baker-Finch. I spent time at The Bear’s Club where Ian is a member and the practice facilities would have to be the best that I have ever seen anywhere. I also had the pleasure of playing alongside of Ian and Jackie Nicklaus, Steve Nicklaus, Hank Kuehne, Olin Brown and other members of the club. I played well every day that I played there and I was certainly looking forward to competing this week”. You can follow Cherie’s progress by visiting www.ladieseuropeantour.com . |
