Byrnes Tied 7th After Round Two in Second LPGA Sectional Qualifying Tournament

Friday, 19 September 2003

Horizons Golf Resort’s Touring Professional, Cherie Byrnes has fired rounds of 70 and 75 and sitting in tied 7th position in the second and final sectional qualifier for the 2004 LPGA Tour being played at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California.

In round two Byrnes got off to a rough start being 3 over through her first 5 holes and brought this back by going through the next 7 holes in 2 under par. She gave a couple of shots back again on 13 and 15 which left her shooting 75 and being in tied 7th position.

Byrnes said “I didn’t drive the ball as well as I have been and I found the reading of the greens quite tough as did many other players, with the grain being more dominating. Today I played on the Dinah Shore Course which is tree-lined with some tough doglegs and the greens are much tougher than the Palmer course which I will go back to playing tomorrow”.

The two final rounds will be played on the Palmer Course and will see the top 30 players from each sectional qualifier advance to the final qualifying tournament to be held on 21-24 October at the LPGA International, Legends Course, Daytona Beach, Florida.
