Media releases Prestigious Scholarship Awarded to Horizons Chef Thursday, 13 November 2003 Horizons Golf Resort chef, Gerard Allan won the Peter Howard Culinary Scholarship at the 2003 Hunter Training Network (HTN) Youth Skills Showcase held at the Newcastle University last night from a field of 750 apprentice chefs and hospitality trainees. Gerard received a travel and study package designed to enhance his professional and personal development and includes a return trip to London with all airfares, accommodation and the opportunity to work in one of London’s finest restaurants. This scholarship is not awarded to apprentices or trainees who have excelled at competition but rather a candidate who is deemed to be a great ambassador for the hospitality industry and HTN. Gerard has won an impressive swag of recent awards including Apprentice of the Year in the Commercial Cookery (Western) in the Hunter Regional Apprenticeship and Traineeship Committee Awards, Gold in the 2003 Restaurant & Catering Hunter Apprentice Cookery Competition and Gold and Silver at the 2003 19th Annual Salon Culinaire Competition and Apprentice of the Year in the Port Stephens Rotary of the Year Awards. Gerard Allan said “The scholarship will give me an experience of a lifetime to broaden my career on an international level. I am very grateful for this opportunity and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and I will do my best to make everyone proud”.
