Media releases Gusty Winds Prove Tough for Trainees Tuesday, 3 August 2004 Strong winds and slick greens provided tough scoring conditions in the first round of the 2004 NSW Trainee Championships at Horizons Golf Resort. Defending champion Martin Joyce from Glen Waverly in Victoria and Oatlands trainee Brady Sherwood share the lead with even par rounds of 72. Strong westerly winds in excess of 40 knots and greens measuring above 11 on the stimp meter presented Horizons at it’s toughest, with the majority of it’s long par fours playing straight back into the wind. Scores were well spread after day one and if conditions remain the same for tomorrow the expected cut will be in the low 160s. Royal Canberra’s Steve Keogh found conditions just right when playing the par three fifteenth. With the wind helping and from the left Keogh fired his tee shot towards the flag, holing out for an ace. For more information please visit www.pga.org.au. |
