Le Meilleur Horizons Trainee Wins 2005 QLD PGA Trainee Championship

Friday, 29 July 2005

Birdies and eagles were the call of the day and a "hole in one" was the toast in an action packed final day at the Blue Chip Portfolio Qld PGA Trainee Championship yesterday. Le Meilleur Horizons Trainee, Michael Mulholland held off many challenges to win the title from defending champion Tim Wood. In a dramatic final hole, Wood hit a five iron from 204m to 8 feet to set up a eagle chance on the 488m par five 18th hole while Mulholland left his second shot in the greenside bunker. He then left his first bunker shot in the trap still leaving himself with a tough up and down to put the championship out of Wood's reach. Wood left his putt on the lip. Mulholland's three shot lead was enough to secure the 2005 title at Royal Pines Resort in Queensland.

Mulholland's rounds of 73-65-66 and 73 (11under) was a great display of golf. Finishing in tied third were Lee Eagleton and Julian Reynolds on 279 and Aaron Snape on his own in fifth place on 280. Russell Smith shot the "low round of the day" with a 65 (7under) while QLD female trainee Crystal Fanning finished strong in ninth place on 282.
