Fourth Australian Amputee Championships Hits Off At Le Meilleur Horizons Golf Resort

The first round of the Australian Amputee Golf Open was underway today with some very hot and humid conditions to contend with. It didn’t stop two time champion Shane Luke posting a score off the stick of 73 on the par 72 Championship course, finishing 2nd after the days play with a net result of 69.

 

Ahead by one shot after the days play is current leader Peter Small from Victoria , shooting 94 off the stick finishing with a net result of 68. It is shaping up to be an exciting contest in with the remaining two rounds to be played on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd March later this week.

 

Amongst others in the field to watch are Ben Field from Queensland with the second best score off the stick today at 75 sitting in third place with a net result of 70. Stephen Prior (2006 NSW and QLD Open Champion) scored 78 off the tee and is currently in the top 10.

 

Ben Tullipan Australia ’s worst injured survivor of the 2002 Bali bombings broke new ground today by competing in the event after taking up the game just eight weeks ago. With the help of Club Car and his computerised leg costing over $180,000 Ben broke 100 for the first time after posting a net result of 94.

 

Richard Jumrukovski , Le Meilleur Horizons head professional is looking forward to the final two rounds of the championships adding “what excellent results under the blistering conditions and well done to Shane Luke posting 73 of the stick, the players are an inspiration to all players of the game and with some of the scores we have seen today there is certainly some great talent in the field.”
